Deluxe Galaga - Hiscore Competition

Welcome to the next classicamiga hiscore competition.

This time we are returning to an old favourite. We have already held a DG competition a few years ago and that was great fun. But with all the newer members we should now have much more competition.

The competition is as always, get the hiscore and take a screenshot of the hiscore. Then upload your screenshot to the members gallery on the main site and then link to the image in this thread to prove your score.

Slowly getting better. I'm going to have to try for a score this weekend. It's been a long time since I played the game properly so this could be hard.

Anyone else joining in, or is Submeg just competing with himself?

Buleste
17th January 2008, 12:35
Submeg is always playing with himself.
I can't even beat his 4th highest score so rule me out.

17th January 2008, 12:40
And the winner is... EMW Software!!!

Harrison
17th January 2008, 12:42
It doesn't matter if you can't beat the highest score. Anyone finishing the competition in the top three will still win a forum award to display next to their posts and in their profile.

I'm in it to win it. If i can't win i won't bother. It's the American way (even though i'm British). Having said that what about the Slam Tilt results. I did quite well on that.

Harrison
17th January 2008, 12:46
I will sort the Slam Tilt results out this afternoon (now that you minded me). I will also update the main site's competition banner to finally show the current competition. I just realised I still have it advertising Xenon!

Buleste
17th January 2008, 12:49
I know. I did try giving Xenon a go but i forgot how crap i was at it so that competition needs closing as well.

Submeg
17th January 2008, 21:19
Hehe, yea playing with yourself does have some adva...I mean I like people. People are cool

Anyone else had time to give the game a go yet? It doesn't matter what score you get. Just post some scores so we can start the ball rolling. I think Submeg might go blind if he keeps playing with himself for much longer!

Submeg

Yep BOTH of my hands are beginning to hurt :p

Vangar
28th January 2008, 10:32
Last time i played that game properly i got to level 125, the game loops over. If i find time, your score is dead. haha.

EDIT: Installing and going to have a few goes now, i hope i still have the touch

Buleste
28th January 2008, 11:24
Please do beat submeg's score. He's in New Zealand for a couple of weeks so he'll be really pissed when he gets back. Good to have you back to the forum.

Vangar
28th January 2008, 12:04
Submeg, your going to have to play a LOT harder.

http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/5205/ownedzr5.png

My fingers hurt, a lot.

EDIT:
How is it done?

You need to finish as many Meteor storms as you can, get full speed and a decent amount of money, almost full bullets and then save for the fireballs. Autofire helps a lot once you have enough bullets. Then occasionally an alien that fires laser beams will turn up in some levels. Killing it gives you an instant $1000 to help you though a ton more. Lather, rinse and repeat. I didn't even die, i just gave up on that level as it is 12:08am. Tomorrow i shall go further. Check the screen-shot, i never used the continues.

Graham Humphrey
28th January 2008, 14:57
I can get to level 210-odd... I dare not play it again as I'll have no social life for the next year or so...

Harrison
28th January 2008, 14:59
Hmm... I really need to plug my X-Arcade in and have some practice. Need to beat that score ;).

Although.... I probably won't come close. I will post whatever score I manage though.

Vangar
12th February 2008, 10:17
No one wants to beat me?

Submeg

Buleste
12th February 2008, 12:52
What happened to those maori hitmen i hired?

Harrison
12th February 2008, 16:40
 I really need to work on a score to post. I doubt I will beat any current scores though, but posting a score of any size might still secure me a top three finish and a trophy! ;) Unless some other members start joining in!

Submeg
12th February 2008, 23:41
Yea I suck I dont know why, I keep dying as I dont know the sequences as I never played it when it first came out so Im learning now, you guys all have an advantage

Vangar
13th February 2008, 04:50
Advantage? Played it when it first came out? Im 18! :P lol

Vangar

I was too busy in real life and didn't get to try. Ah well.

Buleste
12th March 2008, 12:59
Theres still time as i don't think any of the High score competitions have closed (Hint. Hint.).

Harrison
12th March 2008, 13:21
True. You can still give the comp a try if you like. I will be closing it soon so we can launch some new hiscore comps but not for a couple more weeks.

Graham Humphrey
12th March 2008, 17:24
Surely that's a foul, ref?

I dunno, making up the rules as you go along, tsk...

Graham Humphrey

Great, I'm going to have to play it again now

However I think it is slightly controversial keeping the compo open for more than three weeks after it was due to finish but there you go...

Buleste
22nd March 2008, 11:09
The Slam Tilt compo hasn't been closed yet and thats even older so don't worry. In fact i think the Xenon compo's still open.

Graham Humphrey

That's okay then, I'll just take my time ;)

When and how did you submit your hiscore image for this competition? You are not a member of the main classicamiga.com site could not have submitted your image into our member's gallery as the rules state. And this is your first post on the forum.

Surely though the score doesn't count for this compo as you clearly didn't get the score during this particular competition...

Harrison
2nd April 2008, 22:37
Yep, it is indeed the same site. That is our old original forum which is now closed (as it states at the top of that page) as I launched this new forum in 2006 to replace it.

And as Graham said, that was for a different competition using the same game. Sorry, but to enter again you will need to make and submit a new score with screenshot as proof.

Rank|Name|Points
1st|Vangar|6,718,700|
2nd|Graham Humphrey|5,139,110|
3rd|Submeg|1,204,565|

Congratulations to you all. Not the highest scores ever seen for this game by a long way, but much higher than I've ever managed so still some good scores posted in my view.

And on Friday I will be launching a new hiscore competition. Game will be revealed with the launching of the new comp. ;)

Hello! I know this competition is over, but I this great game don't work for me at all. The game loads normally, but I cannot pick up any items or get killed. I use WinUAE!

Demon Cleaner
7th May 2008, 13:18
Surely you have a trained version and enabled the invincibility cheat, so that there's no sprite collision, thus no chance of picking up stuff or getting killed.

Teho
7th May 2008, 14:48
Have you tried setting the collision level to 'full' under the chipset tab in the WinUAE settings?

Harrison
7th May 2008, 16:54
Strange. I've never had any issues getting this game to work perfectly using a standard A1200 setup in WinUAE.

Are you using the version of the game I provided for the competition? If not then you can download it from the main site in our downloads section. It is an HDF so you will need to place it in the harddrives section of WinUAE. It is self booting so you don't need anything in the floppy drives.

raudo
8th May 2008, 06:26
Thanks for answers.. I could't find the version you provided for competition. I could't find any download link from this site:

http://www.classicamiga.com/component/option,com_docman/task,cat_view/Itemid,47/gid,111/

The collision level doesn't help so it must be some kind of trainer mode. I got it from other website and it is ADF file.

Harrison
8th May 2008, 07:32
You need to be registered and logged into the site before you can download the game.

I know that's a little dig, but I always loved Galaga. Few years ago we played a lot with friends trying to beat each other. Finally the high score looked like this

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3695/rekordgalaga.png

I don't remember well, but it was a good score also because I died first time in third fly (after 150 levels). I saw better scores on the internet, but probably cheated or created by modifying hex values (usually number of level is covered or there are only few scores - it is impossible to do score like this in third play...). It took me two months to hit this, played on real Ami, not UAE, using mouse (this isn't make game easier for everyone, my friend Slowik used a joystick). I still remember how happy I was, when i get over 1.000.000 after few days of play :)

Harrison
17th January 2011, 13:44
Very nice score. As you say, it takes a lot of practice, learning the level patterns etc to start clocking up big scores.

We are hoping to start some gaming highscore competitions again this year in here, so keep checking back with us. :)

Submeg
5th February 2011, 20:03
Whoa, as if I came third! It was such a terrible score! Is Deluxe Galaga on the PS3 by any chance?

Harrison
5th February 2011, 20:39
I think you can get an arcade collection for the PS3 from Namco or Atari that includes the original arcad version. You can purchase it through the PS Store for about £6 when I last looked.

Although now with the PS3 CFW released we should start seeing more emulators appearing for the PS3, and I can imagine it can handle MAME well, so some great retro arcade gaming on the PS3 coming soon I hope. ;) BTW, off topic, but does anyone know if anyone has developed a networked multiplayer version of MAME? Wouldn't it be great to hold a mame tornament on the site later in the year, with members playing against each other online?

Kaillera?

http://www.kaillera.com/

Harrison
8th February 2011, 14:23
Kaillera is now very out of date. Last version was in 2003 I think. It is definitely an option we can try if we can't find anything else.

There is of course SNES9x with network support that we could use for SNES gaming. We will have to do some exploring for other emulators with network support. I would love to setup some online retro gaming.
