In start films the number 1138 is used many times....

That number is a referece to George Lucas film THX 1138.

Anyone saw that movie? I think it's from 1971. i would like to see it, but i dont find it here in PT.

Is it good?

THX 1138 is definitely worth watching. It has a very unique style and look and any fan of Sci-Fi and future post apocalyptic futures should see it.

It contains ideas similar to many other books/films of this kind. 1984 and This Perfect Day especially. Using drugs to suppress emotion and sexual desire so that the population can be controlled, and also telling everyone that the outside world is destroyed and life cannot live there. Similar in many respects to Logan's Run, Parts: The Clonus Horror, Fahrenheit 451, and more recently The Island.

For that price, you can't do anything wrong. Best is to get your DVDs from the US, as they're a lot cheaper than in the UK.

Yes, but USA is not region 2 ....my dvd player will not accept it.
But maybe some stores in USA sell other dvd zones...

The other issue with ordering from the US is import duty. I don't know what the price level is there but you have to be careful as you may be charged by your customs for importing it from the US.

Also regarding THX 1138, you said it is the directors cut. This is actually not the same as the original version of the film. Lucas recently redid the whole film, re-editing it and redoing a lot of it and many fans have said it's not as good and he should have left it alone. I've not seen the directors cut so cannot comment.

THX, isn't that the surround sound system?

Harrison

Well spotted. THX isn't actually a type of audio system, but is a certification of audio authenticity standard. Originally designed for cinemas, if a cinema is setup to THX standards it is guaranteed to reproduce the audio for a THX certified film as it was intended to be heard. It has since gone on to become a standard for many formats including audio and visual and now even covers HDTV.

It was called THX because the inventors name was Tomlinson Holman, and because he was developing it at Lucasfilm he thought that using THX from Lucas' first film was a great idea as it was contained his own initials.

The annoying thing about DVD players is that if you spend money for a higher quality player from a decent make you get less features and they are not as easy to convert to multiregion. I've a Sony DVD player I bought a few years ago and the quality is much higher than any cheap models on the market, but it had to be chipped like a games console to play multi region discs. In constrast you can buy a cheap £20 DVD player these days which can be region hacked in seconds with a simple remote control number. But the price you pay is image and sound quality.

Just a bit of info, if you are after details about the original version, then do a search for blak1138.

This was done by Blaksvn-Torrentz in response to the official DC release.

it can be found here (http://www.pauley79.com/thx.html)

It has the laserdisk version of the film and also has the film trailer and a student film by Lucas called Electric Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB.

It also comes with the soundtrack in MP3 format; a selection of WAV files; wallpapers; script; and the dvd cover art.

So a well-packaged fan production well worth looking into.

Bit o trivia, THX 1138 is the licence plate of a vehicle in AMERICAN GRAFFITI another Lucas film lol! ;)

FYI from Wikipedia:

Lucasfilm and related

Combinations of the title and number can be found in several Lucasfilm releases, including American Graffiti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Graffiti), and the Star Wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars) and Indiana Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones) films.
In American Graffiti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Graffiti), the license plate of John Milner's car is THX 138. In Star Wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Episode_IV:_A_New_Hope), Luke says "Prisoner transfer from cell block 1138." In The Empire Strikes Back (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Empire_Strikes_Back), General Rieekan says, "Send Rogues ten and eleven to station three-eight." In The Phantom Menace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_Menace), one of the battle droids that walks by when Queen Amidala and others are being led out under arrest has 1138 stenciled on its back and, in the final battle of the film, Jar Jar knocks over a battle droid with serial number 1138 on his back. In Raiders of the Lost Ark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raiders_of_the_Lost_Ark), when Indy is fighting the bald German the number on the wing of the plane is THX-1138, and in the U-boat scene, a German is heard saying "Eins, eins, drei, acht.", which translates to one, one, three, eight.
In Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Galactic_Battlegrounds), Stormtroopers can be heard saying "THX 1138 ready, sir," if you click on one multiple times. In the video game Star Wars: Republic Commando (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Republic_Commando) the playable character is a clone commando with the number "RC-1138", also known as "Delta 38" or "Boss." RC-1138 also appears in the Republic Commando books (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Republic_Commando_Series), Triple Zero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Republic_Commando:_Triple_Zero), True Colors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Republic_Commando:_True_Colors) and Order 66 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Republic_Commando:_Order_66), as well as the mobile game Star Wars: Republic Commando: Order 66 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Republic_Commando:_Order_66). The video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Unleashed) has the main character Starkiller known as subject 1138, who escapes from a test facility in a scene similar to that of the escape scene. In Maniac Mansion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maniac_Mansion), Weird Ed's Edsel has a license plate number THX 1138. In Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zak_McKracken_and_the_Alien_Mindbenders), Melissa's cashcard balance is $1138, and Zak's phone bill payment is $1138.
At Disney World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_World), while waiting for Star Tours (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Tours), an announcement says, "Will the owner of a landspeeder with vehicle number THX 1138 please move your vehicle? You're parked in a non-hovering zone."

[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=THX_1138&action=edit&section=9)] Other references

The Pinky and the Brain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinky_and_the_Brain) theme song includes a reference to THX 1138 as the part of Brain's "theory of everything" equation, which states, among other things, THX=1138. In the episode "Blackfoot and Slim" of Dexter's Laboratory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter%27s_Laboratory), Dexter is given an ear tag labeled "BF 1138". In the 2009 movie Fanboys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanboys_%282009_film%29) the guards at Skywalker Ranch are wearing the police masks from THX 1138.
It has been speculated (though Misfits vocalist Glenn Danzig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Danzig) refuses to comment) that the Misfits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misfits_%28band%29) song "We Are 138" is a reference to this film.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
In 1979, the rock band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_band) Toto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toto_%28band%29) released the single "99 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/99_%28song%29)", a song inspired by THX-1138's society where people were given numbers instead of names. The music video for the song features the band in an all-white room dressed in white, a set piece designed around Lucas' visionary film.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX_1138#cite_note-5) In 1981, the rock band Queen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_%28band%29) made a video for the song "Calling All Girls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calling_All_Girls)" in a very similar way to THX 1138. The video for the song "You Know My Steez" by Gang Starr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang_Starr) features the rapper Guru (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guru_%28rapper%29) in scenes very similar to THX 1138. The Pet Shop Boys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Shop_Boys) video "I Don't Know What You Want But I Can't Give It Any More (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Don%27t_Know_What_You_Want_But_I_Can%27t_Give_It_Any_More)" copies a number of shots from the testing sequence.

George Lucas tries to get THX1138 into every film he makes and there are plenty of THX spotters out there.
